Experience
In 1988, I earned my bachelor's degree in Physics at the University of Rochester. Upon graduation, I entered the U.S. Navy, serving as an officer until 1997. I left the service and began graduate studies at Old Dominion University. I received my master's degree in Education in 1999. Between 1999 and 2008, I taught Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and Physics at private schools in Chesapeake. During that last school year, I began home-schooling my two daughters, as well as teaching geometry and physics at their home school co-op. Upon retiring from the school system, I worked as a private tutor. I enjoy teaching all areas of mathematics, except for statistics. I really love teaching AP Calculus. It gives me the greatest satisfaction to see confusion transform into understanding and confidence in the eyes of a child. My goal is to teach students how to approach a problem and how to question themselves so that, ultimately, they will be able to find solutions on their own and will have no further need of my services. When I am not tutoring, I love car racing (specifically Formula 1). I am even more intrigued of this sport because of its physics and math implications. I also like to repair and drive classic cars.
