Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Virginia Commonwealth University. I believe that each person's ability to function in society is dictated by their self-esteem and their education. This is my motivation for working as a tutor. By letting each of my tutoring pupils know that I care about them, their interests, their academic success, and their future, I help them in each of these two ways. First, my one-on-one attention and individualized learning plans give them confidence that they are important, and perfectly capable of learning anything, thus building their self-esteem. Then, with my use of various strategies based on each student's particularly learning strengths, I help them improve in their academic scores. These things feed on each other to create a positive learning environment built on trust. I do my best to guide students as they proactively seek to solve the problems required of them, and to point them in the right direction. But my goal is to give them the victory. I assist, but I don't spoon feed information. I encourage and celebrate, but the student owns the learning they have achieved. I continue to learn and discover new techniques in teaching, so I continue to have great success with my students.
